AWAQ activities this summer

Although many of our members will be leaving for the summer, many are also planning to stay, at least in part.  If you are among the latter, you’ll be happy to learn we have many fun outings and activities planned to keep everyone busy.

Our hosted coffee mornings will continue each month, and our informal/new member coffee mornings will continue at Starbucks in Landmark Mall thru June 11.  Sadly, we’ll be saying goodbye to Susan Hoffman, who has been welcoming new members all year, as she prepares to leave Doha in June.  Corinne Craig has graciously offered to host the weekly get-togethers when we resume after Ramadan, and we hope to encourage a few more ladies to participate as hosts on a rotating, once-a-month basis.  If you would like to join our new “welcoming committee” and can make it to the mall once a month, please let us know!

We are also looking for new activities coordinators, now that Rebecca Wyatt has left Doha.  Activities waiting for participants this summer include mahjong, book club, and possibly, bunco.  (Book Club enthusiast Susan Ashmore will also be moving from Doha, but she has entrusted Jenny Ezzo to lead the monthly meetings in her stead, beginning in September.)

Qatari Foodie Explorers will be taste-testing new budget-friendly ethnic specialties all summer long: Baan Thai, Moroccan Marrakech, Ethiopian, Indian Thali.  And we’ll be stirring up our own cuisine with new Thai cooking classes!  For more cultural encounters, look forward to special Iftar dinners at Fanar, movie matinees and behind-the-scenes tours at the Museum of Islamic Arts.

Stay tuned for dates and registration details.  Anyone interested in these activities (or any others you’d like to suggest), can contact us via our online form.
