Events spotlight

Our events team has done an AMAZING job organizing some very special activities this past quarter.  Here is a quick highlight of a few recent events (please visit our Facebook page for event photos):

Falcon Souk & Hospital – our members returned to Souq Waqif for another tour of the Falcon Souq and Hospital on Nov.22nd. During our tour, we got the chance to meet local falconers and held a rare white falcon, worth 800,000 QR! Since hunting season had just begun, the hospital was full and we observed many interesting procedures, including feather grafting, pedicures and endoscopies.

Msheireb Museums – On Dec. 1st we enjoyed a guided tour of the new museums, located in four restored traditional Qatari houses: Bin Jelmood House, Company House, Mohamed bin Jassim House and Radwani House. Each house has been preserved and restored on site by teams of local and international experts, and tells the story of a different aspect of Qatar’s twentieth-century history.

Thanksgiving with the Troops – Everyone deserves a big “thank you” for pulling together another fabulous feast for AWAQ members, family and our honored guests.  Members worked on kitchen detail and decorations, brought more than their share of traditional Thanksgiving fare, and many who could not attend even sent spouses or food in their place. We received a heartfelt letter from the USAF Commander in Chief that summarizes why AWAQ continues to host this event, year after year:

On behalf of Brig Gen and I, thank you so much for spoiling all our Service Members last night. You truly did make a lasting positive impression and make our Service Members feel special.

Wanted to pass on all our Service Members loved it and spoke glowingly of the hospitality and feeling at home. The ice breaker was a nice touch and they were all stuffed–great food is what I was told. George was a hit and they all miss George the cat.

We serve to keep others safe and ask nothing in return. You gift last night will stay in people’s hearts, souls and minds for years to come.

My deepest respect,

V/R
