Heart Pillow Project update: volunteers needed

Hello Volunteers!

We recently delivered 60 Heart Pillow Gift Bags to Hamad Breast Clinic and a silk painting produced by the talented AWAQ Ladies.  The doctors and staff were so pleased and complimentary of the work the AWAQ has done for their patients. It was heartwarming to hear the stories and know that our work is greatly appreciated.

I want to introduce you to Regina McCorkle, who will be taking on the job of coordinating the AWAQ-Hamad Volunteer Work, including the Heart Pillow Project. Some of you may have met Regina at the last AWAQ General Meeting. This vivacious, energetic lady comes to you with years of experience working on charitable projects in her native country of Ireland, her second home country – the USA and other countries where she has lived and worked as an expat. I have no doubt that she will continue to build on the work that we started last year and has continued to grow this year.

Regina hosted the first official sewing meeting of the year  on Tuesday, 3 March. We’ve got a lot of sewing to do between now and the summer break. So please contact Regina at  reginamccorkle2@me.com or 7701 2295 about hosting your own sewing group or other ways that you can help. The Breast Clinic is currently using an average of 6 heart pillows and 10 drain bag totes per week. By June we’d like to have a supply that would keep them in stock through the summer an into the fall. If you can’t make it to the sewing day on Tuesday, please feel free to bring fabric, toiletries or other donations to the next AWAQ General Meeting on Monday, 9 March. We need your help.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give us with this worthwhile project.

All the best,

Barbara Phillips
