We’ll miss you, Barb!

Later this month, we will be saying goodbye to one of our most productive, energetic and captivating members, Barbara Phillips, as she follows husband Darrell to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  Barb’s enthusiasm and infectious good humor will be sorely missed, and we wish to thank her for leadership and ongoing friendship.  She is a true ambassador of what our organization is about.

This will be Barb and Darrell’s second stint in Jeddah, and as experienced expats, they’ve lived in Costa Rica, Mexico, Fiji, Riyadh, Al Khobar, and Dubai. Barb was first introduced to the Heart Pillow by the American Women’s Association of the Eastern Province Saudi Arabia.  Developed in the United States, the Heart Pillow was  later introduced in Denmark by an American Nurse, where she established women’s groups to make the pillows for distribution to mastectomy patients for post-surgical relief. The idea has since spread to many countries around the world. Last  year AWAQ adopted the Heart Pillow Project as one of it’s signature philanthropic undertakings, and we have been fully committed to supporting the development and growth of the Heart Pillow Project to provide a bit of hope and comfort to women here at Hamad Hospital.  Barb views the project as “a true labor of love” and she set the bar in 2014 by recruiting 25 volunteers to kick this project off.

While we are sad to see Barb go, we wish her and Darrell the best of love and luck along their continued journey.  We know wherever she goes, Barb will bring warmth and sunshine, friendship and laughter. Bon voyage!
