Pillow Talk

Our group of heart pillow volunteers keeps growing, and our members just keep on giving! AWAQ members have been extremely generous with their time, and with donations of toiletries, socks, bras and underwear, all for the benefit of cancer patients.  For our upcoming February meeting, we will be collecting new bras.

Last month, students from Qatar University College of Law helped out by sewing more than 30 heart-shaped pillows and 85 drainage bags for the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). The students’ efforts were recently recognized in the Gulf Times.

They also helped our AWAQ sewing group make 75 medical dolls for children recovering from or preparing to undergo surgical operations at its Children’s Hospital.  HMC’s Child Life Service team has already started using the medical dolls in their Pediatric Oncology Unit at Hamad General and in the Day Surgery Area at Al Wakra Hospital.

We’d like to thank everyone  who has generously donated their time in making these items, and for all the sundries and undies donated.  Patients, doctors and nurses of HMC really appreciate it!
